Umrao Jaan is a story about a girl whose life took the biggest turn when she got abducted at a very young age and sold off to a Kothawali" where she was given the name "Umrao Jaan".

Umrao was admired for her beauty and voice many men came in her life but she only loved one and was forunate enough to have him love her back ¦but their love did not last too long. She loses her sense of direction when her lover marries. She decides she will no longer dance for people but it is not easy to escape from the world she lives in.
